Dr Amitabh Monga is a Senior Consultant Gastroenterologist with experience in general gastroenterology, hepatology and advanced therapeutic endoscopy.
He obtained his medical degree (MBBS) from the University of Delhi, India in 1995, followed by his postgraduate Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Internal Medicine from the same university in 1999. After practising internal medicine in New Delhi, Dr Monga moved to Singapore in 2003 and joined Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
He attained his Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom (MRCP) in 2005 and subsequently underwent specialist training in gastroenterology at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He received specialist accreditation in Gastroenterology in 2009 and was later conferred Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (FRCP) in 2013.
In 2010, Dr Monga was awarded a Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) scholarship by Singapore’s Ministry of Health to further his training in advanced therapeutic endoscopy and Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) at the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology in India.
He subsequently joined Raffles Hospital in 2014, where his work included advanced endoscopic procedures for more than five years. His clinical interests encompass general gastroenterology and hepatology, with a particular interest in therapeutic endoscopy and ERCP. His procedural experience also includes the placement of oesophageal, duodenal and colonic stents.
Alongside his clinical practice, Dr Monga has been actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.
He received the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence for the academic year 2008–2009 and has contributed to the teaching of medical students and gastroenterology trainees. He also served as core faculty for the postgraduate residency programme in Gastroenterology.
Dr Monga has contributed to publications in indexed medical journals and has participated as invited faculty at gastroenterology meetings including GI Hep from 2013 to 2018 and SHOLEC in 2014 and 2015.
His service-related recognitions include the Excellent Service Award by SPRING Singapore in 2005, 2006 and 2009, the Service Champion Award by the National Healthcare Group, and the Chairman’s Award for Service Excellence at Raffles Hospital in 2019.
